Katharina Schwesinger(Soprano)

 

Katharina Schwesinger has had several engagements on many different stages during and immediately following her vocal studies at university.

 

Her repertoire includes important roles of her fach such as Micaëla (Carmen/ Bizet), Fiordiligi (Così fan tutte/ Mozart), Donna Elvira (Don Giovanni/ Mozart) and Nedda (Pagliacci/ Leoncavallo). She also has sung the Fox (The cunning little vixen/ Janáček), Laura (The Beggar Student/ Millöcker), Princess Laoula (L’etoile/ Chabrier) and the First Squire (Lohengrin/ Wagner). As a soloist she has performed in "Der Rose Pilgerfahrt", in the contemporary music theatre pieces "Happy Hour" and "Das Glashaus" and in the world premieres "OPERation Breisgauland 2048" (Jan F. Kurth) in the role of the Psychic and as the Investor in "Die Bauernhofoper" (Vasiliki Kourti-Papamoustou).

 

She was engaged at the Freiburg Theatre, the Braunschweig State Theatre, the Frankfurt Chamber Opera, the Hamburg Chamber Opera, the Rheinsberg International Festival for Young Opera Singers, the Festival of the Aegean in Syros (Greece), the Be'er Sheva Performing Arts Center (Israel) with the Be'er Sheva Sinfonietta and the Community Opera Freiburg. 

 

Katharina has also performed at the iSING! Festival in Suzhou (China), the Nancy Opera House (France), the Urayasu Concert Hall in Tokyo (Japan) and the Bayreuth Young Artists Festival. During her concert experiences she has had the chance to expand her repertoire with scenes from Madame Butterfly, La Bohème, Il trovatore, La forza del destino, Mefistofele, Le nozze di Figaro, La clemenza di Tito and Der Freischütz.

 

The young German soprano is a scholarship recipient of several foundations, including: Richard Wagner, Helene Rosenberg, Yehudi Menuhin - Live music now and also Nancy Opéra Passion, the Greek Opera Studio and the Tokyo International Vocal and Arts Academy. She is also a prize winner of the International singing competitions "Chamber Opera Rheinsberg" and "Opernspiele Munot" (Switzerland).

 

Following her completion at the University of Freiburg with Professor Angela Nick, she was a member of the Liedclass by Professor Hans-Peter Müller and the Opera School led by Alexander Schulin.

 

After masterclasses with René Jacobs, Ludovic Tézier, Lenore Rosenberg (Met Opera), Margreet Honig, François-Xavier Roth, Jorge Parodi and Howard Watkins (Met Opera) she is continuing her vocal studies with Christina Vasileva who performs at the Prague States Opera.

 

Katharina was born in Greifswald, grew up in Meiningen and had a long ballet education at the theatre there. As a soloist of the music school choir she already took part of concert journeys to China and Brasil. She currently speaks German, English, Italian and Russian.
